Love in their Holsters: review of 43rd and Excellence by Aceyalone and DJ Fat Jack

Aceyalone and Fat Jack's new LP 43rd and Excellence is a triumph. A brief but meaty masterwork from two Blowed originators and veterans, the immense musicality and quality of each track can't be overstated. It's also some of Ace1's strongest and most tightly composed poetry ever in my opinion. He literally hasn't missed a beat since the All Balls and Human Language classics too many haven't listened beyond.

As a pretty curse-free stony MC myself I can't help but notice and admire that the lyrics here are almost entirely free of profanity but most folks would never know it from the irreverent brutal truths about life Ace smoothly rattles off with every other stanza.

Sonically, every flow is pocket, every snare crisp beyond belief, each melody a proper earworm. Aceyalone chillactimously delivers some of his sharpest and most perfectly metric rhymes ever on Fat Jack's pristinely produced boom-bap, jazz and even more contemporary sounding double-time beats making for an album whose level of melody, subtlety and poetry are seldom matched.

DJ Fat Jack image from Fifth Element on YouTube

Standouts are the the opening 2, "Circled Days" and the drippingly cool "Bang Bang" on which Aceyalone lays out Thursday through Sunday for an MC and working class hero like himself are like; with "the world on his shoulder" and "love in his holster". This dichotomy of the feeling the pressure of life but also feeling empowered by your own perspective and positivity is one of my favorite things about Aceyalone's work. It is a reassuring sense, the balance he is aware of and verbally creates.

"The Cool" is a slick meditation on the culture of lyricists and underground rappers. I love that Fat Jack and Ace end "Hollywood" the way they do, abruptly but logically, the way some relationships indeed do end. Moments like this are employed sparingly but effectively. "We've Arrived" is another immaculate low-key banger. I love the relatable west coast life lyrics about hotboxing the Chevy before stepping on the scene.

"Shooting Star", "Trouble in front of me", "I Told You Ace" are more examples of Acey's masterful knack for storytelling and introspection. "Scott Joplin" is a clever percussive classic that also includes the lyric, “Willie Lynch? Of course he will…” Aceyalone continues to make some of the wildest shit sound just right.

"Doing or Judging" is a rare glimpse into the kind of aesthetic philosophy that might motivate Fat Jack and Aceyalone who indeed have reminded me of Coltrane and his contemporaries once I actually started to examine their work. “When y’all ready” is a deft and jammy summation of how ahead of their time Aceyalone and Fat Jack have always been, waiting for the world to be ready for them. "Hambone" is so quirky but so killer. I love when Ace says "and I bought my DJ a brand new knife set..." as a transition for Fat Jack to "cut it up"- the duo walk the impossible line of staying true to the old school while never sounding dated. Each track sounds fresh, imbued with purpose, love in their holsters.

I've listened to the record 8 times or more, many more times for my favorite tracks and it is up there with my favorite Aceyalone albums. Having heard his whole discography - his journey of exploring other genres through the lens of hip-hop, his re-affirmations of mastery of his mutant bastard style children's idiolects, his epic team-ups - it all led to a moment like this when him and Fat Jack could seemingly drop such a soulful wise and nourishing record without even breaking a sweat. How patient and Jedi-like that these life-long collaborators waited until this moment to finally make a full album length collaboration like this and how mighty the bond they've forged that we're lucky enough to revel in for 40-something minutes with this album.

Review of David May's "The Lifestyles of a Dream Chaser" album (Part 1)

I swear I saw David May on GrindTime now , years ago, rap battlin’ …..but he insist that it isn’t true…So I have had the pleasure of listening to some of Mr. May’s music & finding out who he REALLY is!!.... David May is a member of the infamous Inland Empire label Black Cloud Music, along other talented emcees such as Noa James, Curtiss King, Art Barz, etc etc etc.. ( the list of artists associated is quite impressive). With the drop of his single “Strawberry Lemonade” back in June 2012, David May began to get his followers excited about his future project “The Lifestyles of a Dream Chaser”… Well.. Its been 5 months and the album is finally here! So without further adieu I am ready to dissect this album track by track and decide whether I think David May is close to achieving his dreams or living in a nightmare… LETS GET IT!!!

Intro (These Dreams I Hold) (Prod by Mr. Kooman)
Starts track…
Ah! Clip from that Will Smith movie “Pursuit of Happyness”… Always motivational… heard it used before tho but fitting for the album’s theme.
Ah again! Mr. Kooman on the beat? I remember him from my soundclick days when there was always a battle for the top spots on the instrumental charts.. Kooman was the guy to beat!! Smooth beat… bass, live drum, and guitar heavy…hear some piano in there too…
David May spittin’ chill bars to match Kooman’s production….The lyrics aren’t really standing out to me in any parts tho… Wish his vocals were a little louder.. the hook is nice… I mean it’s Tony Bennett singing but hey..I can vibe to it… I’m ready to hear more tho.. what’s next?

Climbin’ ft Waju & Phantom Thrett (prod by J. Bizness)
This sounds familiar… Think I saw him perform this joint live… J. Bizness on the beat! Bizness always provides the perfect instrumentals to vibe to. May rode the beat well… I enjoyed his verse….
Phantom Thrett on the hook… I like the vocal arrangement.. wish the mixing on the layers blended a little better… less low notes in my left speaker and highs in my right…. You feel me.. dope hook tho… love Thrett’s vocal talents…
Waju on the feature verse… Killin it as always.. Recently I have been highly impressed with everything Waju does.. the combination of his flow and lyrics is unfuckwitable at the moment. Dope!
May tackles the final verse on this joint touching on the subject of success …

“Let passion be your God”
I can relate to this verse.. Grinding in your city… Working hard so people can hear what you’re passionate about.. I feel that! Great song! J

Strawberry Lemonade (prod by Black Light Music LLC)
Ayyyy!! This my shxt! Props to the producer on this joint.. makes me wanna hit the blunt and hop in a pool… I remember the video for this joint.. shxt was clean but I wish May was on a beach with a bitch & a blunt.. but ::shrug:: to each his own ideas lol…
Some might consider this just another “weed song” but bet they vibe to it tho!
If you can’t stand the box get out and stop bitchin’
I FEEL THAT!!

Never Satisfied (Prod by Tyrannosaurus Flex)
Oh lalaaaa!! Loving this jazz sample… ugh I love jazz so much… blame my mom.. the drums drop and honestly the sample carries the production.. drums could be better… but regardless D May meets the challenge speaking again on success but more so on reaching his own expectations…
Second verse and the remainder of the song kind of lost my attention tho.. imma go head and press next…

Faith (prod by Curtiss King)
This track starts off with a real soulful sample courtesy of Curtiss King… when the beat drops.. I expected more from the drums but this is really chill… Can’t complain…I’d smoke one to it! ::shrug::….

Imagine your wildest dreams coming true
David May begins spitting bout his dreams and whatnot… this a pretty cool track speaking on the topic of the album title…. His flow is kinda slow on this joint…
& ive been running full circle
But ive never cut no corners running through a track with a lot of fuckin hurdles

the mix on this joint is clean as hell… & the production makes it really sound like David May might ACTUALLY be in a dream…..I like the hook on this joint.. should’ve had some extra singing behind his vocals and the singing on the sample..woulda been nice….
The fx vocal interlude is a nice touch….the screwed part that follows is aight tho.. wish the vocals were a bit deeper to get the full effect..could do without it….cool track tho.. J

The Lifestyle of a Dream Chaser (prod by Brook Beats)
& here it is.. the title track of the album!
D May gets off on this joint lyrically!

When I see the black and whites then I toss my roach

He speeds his flow up a lil bit but then changes it up shortly after towards the middle of the verse….
The hook is cool… not really one you can sing along.. I’d need a script!
Verse two sick tho! Bridge Part A & B are pretty dope too J

Intergalactic Hangover ft Noa James (Prod by Curtiss King)
Uh-oh! 3 of the Black Cloud Music members coming together to collab on this joint?! Should be dope! Love Curtiss’ sample choices…. Some of the intro cuts seem a lil off timewise but when the beat drop it made me forget that I even noticed it! ;) Didn’t really pay attention to the first part of May’s verse but he killed it toward the end of it… may be start head nodding.. Noa James on the hook!

We say peace to our enemies
or
We keep a piece for our enemies
The color of our energy is Hennessy
The color of our energy is Hennessy

Oh shxt! Noa killin his verse…
Fire like the thighs on Mya?! Sheeeshh lol… got damn Noa… you didn’t have to kill it like this tho!! From start to finish… major props! I gotta run that shxt back a third time…end of this joint dope as hell too… props to Curtiss!

She Fucks With Me ft Damar & Ceenario  (prod by Mr. Kooman)
Production is nice… I’m nodding along waiting for the vocals to start…
May’s flow on this joint kinda reminds me of Curtiss King’s… :-X ..just here and there tho…

I’m drinking & drowning all the memories
Its crazy how we went from best friends to enemies

The hook is cool… vocalist seems to be struggling on the notes a lil but they got the right concept… arrangement is dope regardless..

If this Andre Damar on the second he killin… I feel the emotion in his flow.. Props for that!

Outro interlude is interesting lol.. I like it! J

In A Nutshell
Alright… I listened to about half of the CD and told you my opinion on the tracks….Imma check out the rest a lil later & tell you what I think as well as rate the project as a whole…but don’t wait for me… CHECK IT OUT FOR YOURSELF!!

Review of Sprit Fangs "Better/Worse" Album

SPIRIT FANGS. Hmm all I’ve heard is that FaimKills is apart of this band. So imma let the music speak for itself. Let’s get it!

The Last Ones Left
Oh wow. I’m lovin’ it already! Love the handclaps with that kick drum… great start….Lovin’ the vocals too…Like scream but not all the way…Raw tho! I’m really glad I like this genre of music….& I’m glad that I get a chance to check out something other than Hip-hop….Good track

.22
Oh yes! This is definitely going in the car!... Okay check this..I got into rock mainly because I used to buy Tony Hawk’s skateboard games everytime they released one and I always looked forward to see what band they’d have on there for me to listen to while I do kickflips over giant burgers and shxt!.... This song just took me back to those memories! This is some official sounding shxt yall and off back I think you guys should look into licensing your music for movies and video games. Just a thought. Oh shxt.. that change up! > lol... Imma need to come see yall live…

Lazy Lovers
Okay I do have a critique. I didn’t even know this track had started. I thought .22 was still playing. I’m not sure if that was the sound you guys were going for or not. If so, you pulled it off effortlessly but if not…wish something a little differently sounding would have came up next. Either way it works tho. Alright let me stop typing for a minute and enjoy the song. The band is phenomenal!

Nightcrawler
Once again sounds like the last one but I’m guessin’ this is your sound. I need that diversity tho. Slow it down and then speed it back up. Love the timing switch up. GENIUS!.... Wish the vocals on here were a little louder. I hear the rawness in your voice but I want to hear it in your lyrics too!

Always/Never
Nice to hear it finally slow down. Wish it would have happened a lot earlier. Love the melody of the vocals…delivery was a little too soft at times but then it worked.. especially since he “scream” effect came in right before the beautiful guitar based bridge.. I feel that!

In A Nutshell
Oh how I wish this was longer….I really enjoyed this project tho. There’s not much to be said. SPIRIT FANGS is an amazing band! Point Blank Period. The End. Buy the album HERE

Review of Radio Base's “Based On A True Story (B.O.A.T.S)” Mixtape

Okay dig this background story. I was going to Food 4 Less one day and saw this guy with some crazy ass hair. He had his shxt freeform growing. Looked wild but I liked it! Shortly after, I went to a party with a couple of my homegirls and it was hosted by the same crazy-haired dude. It wasn’t until someone on my Facebook posted a link for this dope ass Master Chef shirt that I finally found out some background on this guy. Radio Base, formerly of the duo The Cosby Hype, is a rapper from Moreno Valley, CA. Not only has he created a buzz for himself with his music, but pieces from his clothing line can be seen ,here and there throughout the city, on random teenagers. Radio Base’s profiles also say that he is a signed skater and describes himself as being “Not famous. Not popular” But basically “somewhere in the middle”. Well, let’s check out this mixtape and see if his music lives up to the “hype”.

B.O.A.T.S (intro)
I respect the R.I.P shoutouts (Jamil & Flamez). Loving the music. This really does sound like some intro shxt. Then Radio comes in…..

I remember last year and all these bxtches I would chase em
But this year it feel different cause it seems like I got em waitin
I told myself I quit skating and focus more up on this music
And this talent that I got and my city be tellin me to prove it
But then I got signed for fuckin with that skateboard
So the thoughts of me quittin popped up in my head no more

Radio Base has an interesting flow. It’s like a second off beat but it works. Seems like sometimes he adds an extra syllable where it’s not needed but it’s apart of his style. Radio Base gives shoutouts to fellow local rappers Theory Ole ,Pheo, & Stevie Crooks then goes onto say he’s killin’ the rest of the artists out there. Nice way to be humble and cocky at the same time. Cool intro.

Blammer (Some No Me)
This beat is cool. Pretty simple. The hook is alright. I kinda like it. It’s simple as well.

Most niggas know me, some niggas don’t
Some might approach me but most niggas wont
I don’t fuck with lames, word is bond
Just cause I rock, I aint made of stone

The verses are simple as well. Track is cool. Didn’t really impress me. Just some chill shxt.

Bring It Back ft Slay Inc. & 2GGS Chiffa
Okay. Rappin’ on that Travis Porter “Bring It Back” beat. This my shxt! I don’t know if this “on my mama” shxt is the hook but it’s eh! I like the verse though….His flow is chill but he cocky with it. It works for him. Yea that is the hook. Lol. It coulda been better. Rapper on second… Slay inc. I like his lyrics but his voice lowkey annoying. I think if he fix his delivery he woulda killed his verse. The next rapper gets what I mean! His delivery is cold! If the two combined lyrics and delivery they’d both improve. Cool shxt tho. The last rapper had a straight verse. Props for it!

Gaws
This beat is dope as hell. I kinda don’t like the Tyler the Creator line re-usage. The rest is cool. Woulda enjoyed this better if it had (freestyle) behind the title…Cause this is what this sounds like. I like the Big Sean flow tho… Radio did that shxt well.

Great Scott (Outro) ft Slay Inc
Think I got the songs outta order but whatever.. Leggoo! Ay! I like Slay Inc on this joint! This the emotion that was listening in the last verse he dropped on this project. Wait! Maybe I’m trippin… Thought it was the same person. It don’t matter. Didn’t hear Base on here but the dudes ripped this beat. Good shxt

Great Scott
Aww love the intro! That’s my movie right there son! I’m tryna get some "Pursuit of Happyness" money too! Guess this is Base’s turn to rip the same beat.. Let’s hear it! Oh okay! Base killin’ on that shxt….Almost reminded me of Jay-Z for a minute and that’s a great comparison! ::shrug:: Just sayin’. Like the Theory, Glass Ceiling line….lol good shxt….and the outro is clean as hell haha…random but cleaaan!

Hammer Time ft Young Sam
This beat is pretty ill as well. Verse was cool but there is something bout his flow that still reminds me of Tyler the Creator. It’s botherin’ me a little. Young Sam up next. Big Ups to Sam… He been makin’ moves. Ain’t he fuckin’ with SODMG now? Good shxt. Verse was straight! Nice feature.

Hot Hands ft Samuelz

I got a Harry Potter blanket so yall bitches can’t see me

Lol I get it! Beat is cool. I’m startin’ to think Radio Base is an Odd Future fan! I hear the inspired sound. I mean I can see why… not to compare but I know a lot of skateboarders rock with Tyler and Casey Veggies and the rest of the OFWGKA crew! Samuelz killed this shxt! Propz!

I Don’t Know Her Name
Ayyyy! This beat go! Remind’s me of some A.V LMKR shxt! Got me tryin’ hard not to do the ratchet clap! HAHAHA I’m mad as soon as I typed that shxt the beat did the fuckin’ ratchet clap! Lol that’s whassup! I’m feelin’ this… prolly cause this my type of shxt…::shrug:: I’m prolly gon end up puttin’ this on a mix cd. Good shxt! Sure I’ll hear this at the next local party I go to.

Joe Story (Block Boy Gossip)
Storytelling shxt. I feel it. Not too many people can still do this shxt and do it right….& I mean.. you did the concept justice. I’m actually listening to the story and can picture this whole scenario in my mind. That’s art. Beat is nuts! On some epic shxt! Props to the producer! Wish you woulda gave some prod by shoutouts in your song titles.. Maybe next time?

Junkies (Gimmie Those) ft Alex Cloud
Like that room look like a store line.. I saw one of Radio Base’s last mixtapes and old boy got jerseys and everything hanging on his walls and shxt. Make my closet look like the Good Will! Lol Alex Cloud’s verse was pretty straight.. with his voice, I feel like he needs to change up the delivery a little bit to stand out more.

Kick Back ft Lil Jeff

Ay you can’t have a kickback and not have red cups my nigga

True shxt. We be double cupp’n them white joints tho! ::shrug:: This beat is pretty dope… Perfect for the song concept!
I know you drunk but watch my shoes

This shxt need some Rick Ro$$ adlibs…. Woooo! I’m feelin’ Lil Jeff’s verse. Good shxt! This a long ass song tho.. Almost pressed next.

Mega Man (freestyle) ft So Icy YG
*cooks* Oh my bad! Lemmie listen… Oh okay! I fuckz with anybody who fucks w/ Mad Dog …. That’s my shxt! But anyway….first-class shxt for a freestyle. So Icy’s verse started off dope as hell…fell off a little toward the end but still solid shxt.

Ms. Skateboard ft Kevin Scott
I love Erykah Badu but I’m mad at hell at how offkey the sample is with the beat…. C’mon producer….whoever you are! I see what you were tryna do butshxt.. Change the pitch if you need to.. it’s possible! Now that I think of it.. I’m kinda mad I didn’t sample this shxt first! Lol Verse cool on this joint.

Nuthin But A Block Thang
Classic beat. I’d ride around playin’ this shxt just cause! Great choice!

Otis ft Chills
I like how the beat changed up…not really..but a little.. Shoutout to Chills for the feature! Glad you did the bounce back shxt like ye & jay….shxt was straight.

Romans Revenge
I liked the beginning of this shxt. You were goin’ in…. I kinda zoned out towards the end tho…Lemmie press rewind. My bad! Alright… I see you.

West Side Moven (Drippen Like Water)
This beat knock…. I enjoy Radio base on club shxt more than anything. He seems to kill that shxt with no problem. I’m thinkin’ like the next YG ::shrug::

In A Nutshell
The mixtape was cool. Honestly, I know Radio base can come with a lot better. I’m talking… better quality, more original production, better features….the flow was nice… and the lyrics were on point too! I give him that.. Fuck the mixtape shxt… I wanna hear an album! Like o some official soundin’ shxt. You got the whole city behind you…. Now do something with it! Looking forward to hearing more from him tho & I’ve been tryna get a Master Chef shirt for like MONTHS! So get at me!... In the meantime, you can download the mixtape HERE

Review of The League's "Junior Varsity"

I was blessed with the opportunity to attend a hip hop show at The Glasshouse in Pomona, with some of the JooseBoxx.com crew, not too long ago. That night there was loads and loads of talent seen on the stage that night. Among them, one of my favorite performances of the night came from a two man rap group known as The League. Made up of rappers Phresco Cool & Johnny Wax, The League stood out with a strong sense of self from each rapper combined with a definite on-stage chemistry. To top it off, their music was accompanied by a live drummer who, in my opinion, woke up the crowd a little bit. I was excited when I got the email from my boss lady giving me their new project to review. So without further adieu let’s check out “Junior Varsity”. (tracks below might be out of order)

Friend Time

I’m already loving it. The music is real jazzy and I could definitely chill to this. The intro(or hook) sounds a little jumbled but that might just be the beat overpowering the vocals. Wish it stood out a little more. J. Wax goes into the verse killin it with his smooth style.

Ayo I’m too drunk to be up & not in some vaginaIts either call it quits or call this chick from Carolina
That I met last week. Let me see whassup
Ima try my luck. Hopefully she picks up.

Love the breakdown with the chick on the phone. It goes perfect with the concept of his verse. Very creative. Alright time for Phresco’s verse.

Girl you still in my house? The party been over.
No need to conversate unless you tryna bend over
Matter fact invite a friend over.

I must admit. When I heard Phresco on stage I was like man this man’s voice soundin’ crazy wild but I’m feelin how chill it sounds on wax. Good shxt. Love the outro. Good start!

Don’t Matter

This beat is dope as hell! I enjoyed the video for this track as well. J sped up the flow for this so I couldn’t really understand what he was saying but I started vibin’ once he slowed it down a little…. When he sped it back up it was easier to be on board with him this time. Straight verse. P. Cool’s verse is straight too!

LA nigga but you know that I don’t fuck with ratchetts
Okay I am lying but that if she got personal ASSets

Dope track. I think this was supposed to be after the whole project but like I said, I think the tracks are out of order. Whatever! What’s next.

Better Than Me

Cool lil intro. Inspirational. Lol. Creative beat. Sounds like it was made by a rookie but ain’t nothing wrong with that. This shxt go lowkey! Perfect for a freestyle type track. Phresco not freestyling tho but it still goes well. I’m hella feeling Wax’s verse! Kinda reminded me of Kanye for a minute way he was goin’ in. Emotion was on point. Hmm short track. Okay.

Bills

This nigga talking bout some real shxt. Hella fast but I feel that man!..dope intro… BILLS!

Work hard just to pay off all of these BILLS
But the government keep on passing these BILLS
Just so brothers can’t stack these dollar BILLSMan I promise yall im sick of all of these BILLS

Dope ass hook. I know everyone can relate. Beat is simple but I ain't mad at that. I’m tryna hear what you sayin in these verses anyway! I LOVE Phresco’s verse! If this ain’t real idk what is:

School loans but I aint finish college yetHere so long now they callin me a college vet
Lookin thru the peephole tryna dodge the repoMe and Wax stealin from the Home Depot
The love of money is the root of all evil
The lack of money is the death of my peopleThe only way to escape debt is thru death
You either give your last dollar or your last breath

For some reason I wish the beat woulda switched up a little for Jurassic’s verse but it’s cool…Woulda made it stand out a little more. I like this track.

Going Up ft Steph Jones

Nice beat. Really futuristic chill party type shxt. Phresco’s voice soundin’ a little more like what I first heard. That’s cool with me… makes it original.I honestly hate the hook!! No disrespect, but I feel like the vocalist(Steph Jones) on it could have been a lot better. It almost made me press next but I wanna peep the rest of the track. Nice verse from Johnny. I see you! This track is straight….not one of my favorites so far though.

Happy Cool Day ft Marsha

I like the title of this joint. Oh okay! I remember this because their drummer was goin’ wild during their performance! Reminded me of the Neptune’s… So you already know I’m vibin’! Shxt! All this track needs is Pharell on the hook and we’d have a hit!... Marsha did her thang tho! I like her voice. P and J both delivered solid ass verses on this joint. Definitely one of my favorites!
Junior Varsity

The intro for this joint is on some real shxt. I feel u J! Wack niggas always make it cause they got connections ::shrug:: I mean.. can’t knock the hustle but I still feel you.

They tried to cut me from the team, I told everybody I quit
I wasn’t ready to face that type of embarrassment
But then I started thinkin, im prolly one of the best niggas that you got
More heart than every single muthafucka on yo squad

I like how P pointed out that Jordan got cut from his team too. Great example. This beat is cool. Oh I just noticed that the genre for this track and maybe the whole EP is “Cool AF” … hahah I see you.

How you put the best of the best on Junior Varsity?

Love To Give ft Ill Camille

First off! Before I even play this track.. *presses pause* Props on the Ill Camille feature! I’m a fan… she’s dope! Shoutout out to all the femcees representin! WOOT WOOT!.. alright my bad.. back to the music! *presses play* Love the sample! A personal favorite of mine… Nice flip! Drums are a little different tho…. But still chill enough for Phresco to spit on. Nice verse. Johnny’s vocals on this fit pretty damn well.

These 808s gon pay these bills & not these X’s and O’s
So its love lockdown and sorry I forgot the code

Alright here we go! Ill Camille!... Not gon lie…Kinda been waiting the whole track for this verse.. Sorry. Hmm Honestly… I think the drums on the beat kinda threw this whole section off. Ill Camille’s flow is a little different than what I’m used to hearing from her. Nice lyrics but I’m kinda disappointed. I’ll just blame the drums tho.

Play Through the Pain ft Marsha

Feelin’ the piano… & the concept of the track but somethings missing! Hmm not feelin’ Marsha on this hook….Soundin’ hella old school tho… Reminds me of uhh Tina Marie! ..maybe a little Chaka Khan..lol I think a more modern r&b singer on here woulda sounded dope… singing through the verses too! Woulda been nice. I like the skit at the end tho. Hella Inspirational! You gotta breathe success! I feel that…dope.

Rolaids & 7-Up ft. Name

Dope beat. Hella dope concept!

Damn I’m waking up to my head spinningThere’s throw-up on my bed linenA chick I don’t even know in my bed grinningIm addicted to the college life and college women

Phresco got the college life down to a T! I like the hook on this joint. It’s different!

My head spinning tooMy stomach is hittin them cartwheelsI would imagine this how abstract art feel

Feelin’ this verse from J. Wax

I never sweater (sweat her) if she give the whole crewneckShe gave me and my man the mouth that’s what I call a duet

Ha! Dope shxt J! Cool ass track…. I can relate. Lol

See You Again

I would love to see a video to this song. If you could find a director who could be as creative as the story line in the track you could have a song that people dedicate to others. I hate the piano in the hook! WTH!! It’s hella off key.. Sorry… off key notes piss me off! Lol Blame “the ear” ….

Undefeated

Okay. Cool sample. Oh okay! I like this beat and J. doin what he does best….

Won’t stop till we reach the hall of fameThe League be out with model women , you be at home with the ball & chain

I like the beat concept.. goes along with the whole Junior Varsity theme… good thinkin! P’s verse is cool… Kinda wish it switched it up…That’s just my personal preference in songs.. I like hearing something different!

Winnin winnin! & that’s one hell of a feelin’ feelin’Aww yea we Undefeated!

Vegas Trippin’

This is the first song I heard from The League before I hit their concert that one day. I enjoyed their live performance of this track too. The beat is dope as hell! ….Shakin’ them dice up lol.. I like that… This track is hella cool

In A Nutshell:

I definitely see a future for these guys. I really hope to see them one day on MTV Jams doing hip-hop videos. The League reminds me of groups like Dilated Peoples and A tribe Called Quest but more Cali with it you know. I feel like the features took away from my enjoyment of the mixtape.. There were a couple solid ones but other features made pretty nice tracks skippable..." Overall I really enjoyed the tape and I am looking forward to the next project they release. I’d like to hear better production tho…I think that would take these guys from JV straight to Var! We’ll see if they make the team next time…
