Review of Fourteenk's "Operation Au" EP

Whats good yall! It’s Yung Miss here with another one… I first heard about Fourteenk after seeing a Music video they did for a “Make It Rain” remix they did with Theory Ole. From there I kept a wide open eye and ear for anything the group released but I missed something! In November 2011, Fourteenk released their EP “Operation Au” & I don’t think it’s too late to check it out and see what this Moreno Valley 3-man group has to offer. Let’s get it!

I’m already liking the concept… The interview in the intro is original & has me ready to “expect the unexpected”. The rapper comes in with a different flow but I hear what he’s sayin’…. He has that kind of flow that makes people ignore what he’s sayin’ cause the flow is a little “sloppy”… but I keep catchin a couple lines

Genius shxt.

Honestly..I keep having to rewind this song….Let me try and focus this time. Production is simple by the way. Made to let the rapper shine I’m guessin’ but its pretty raw if you ask me. I kind of wish as the beat builds in the back something changed about the way the rapper was approaching the beat you know….I feel like I keep missin’ out on deep shxt he is saying because it gets a little cluttered. Love the concept though and from what I could understand he speaking on some real shxt.

Love how it went Kanye maybe bout 1:40 into the song….

Oh man!! Props to the producer for going into Slipknot beast mode at the end… That was sexy lol What’s next?

Dirty Thoughts

I’m diggin the beat so far. Sounds like some dubstep dark sounding type shxt. The production is so different. I enjoy it. It’s definitely “experimental”. Okay let’s see what this song is about tho:

I’m feelin’ how the beat changed up a little… Very reminiscent of The Neptunes but definitely different which is good. I’m sure they’ve heard that plenty of times but Fourteenk..If you are reading this..Take it as a compliment.. The Neptunes will live forever in music history.

I feel like the vocals and concept don’t stand out enough tho. The hook didn’t capture me. Lol I’m not moved! ::shrug:: Whatever… Still vibing. I heard

“I wanna see you naked. I wanna see you nude” but I should have been having “dirty thoughts” with the artist the whole time. I kind of didn’t.. I think I was too focused on the beat. Nice track tho.

Lol I actually have a version of this song on a mix cd that plays in my car. It doesn’t have the intro tho. I like that. I love the concept of this & the sound is different. Reminds me of the Neptunes again especially with the change up. I would love to see a visual to this tho. The lyrics and production go perfectly hand in hand so I applaud Fourteenk for this track.

Lol I was trying my best to not make another Neptunes comparison but then I just heard this switchup on the bridge.. …N.E.R.D!!! lol… Great song tho… Even tho.. I never kick em out.. I’m in love with the production on this joint. I wanna smoke a blunt and make love to it at the same time. Very creative. This is beautiful. I imagine prolly 90% of my day. Lol.

I think the vocals could’ve been a little better…. I think if yall would have shopped this to like Day26 or something like that… No disrespect to the singer…cause I’m still enjoyin this very much so.

Love it….. & I’m vibin’ with this shxt. Beautiful work. It’s like music people aren’t ready for because they don’t know how to process it correctly. Haha! Yea I fux with Fourteenk for this one!

In A Nutshell

Man! That was fun. If I had to describe Fourteek’s music…Hmmm… I’d say it’s like the sound of sex with virtual reality glasses on. Now imagine that! The group is amazing. The creativity of the tracks is what stood out most to me.

Damn… So.. I thought Imagine was over so I’m writing this final part and that shxt just came back on a nigga one time!... Ha! I love you guys for it!!....

But like I was sayin..my bad lol… Umm.. I enjoyed the project. Wish there was one more track… I’m like waiting for something else to start playing now and I feel empty. Lol. If I had any complaints it would be on the delivery of some of the lyrics on these songs. It’s like watching “genius” be ignored because it wasn’t given the right light to be seen under. It’s there but can everybody see it?

Lol. Alright I’m done. I’m thinking too much! Two thumbs up! Hope to be hearing more from Fourteenk soon!

Review of Stevie Crooks' " VLNSNVRDIE"

Okay so I first heard about Stevie Crooks a long ass time ago. I hink I was on UTB’s blogsite and they had put up a download link to his mixtape. I’m kinda upset with myself because I can’t remember the name but I remember it had an asian/Mexican looking chick on the cover with a bandana tied around her head. If yall been on the scene for a minute you know what I’m talkin’ about. It was so long ago that I honestly can’t even remember if I liked the mixtape or not… So I’m going to treat this like a first time listener’s experience. Since the release I’ve had the opportunity to see some live performance footage from Crooks and I’ve been impressed but let’s see what he sounds like on wax!...I’ve also been told that he did the majority if not all of the production on this joint so imma keep an ear open for that as well.. Alright.. enough of my thoughts… *presses play*

Anti Hero

Okay. Feelin’ the vibe so far… When Crooks start spittin’ I can’t help but nod my head! He on that raw shxt. I see you. Wasn’t really able to quote anything said tho cause I was enjoying the delivery. No hook on this joint? Felt kinda empty for a second. Shoutouts were a little random but shxt! I feel …Say whassup to ya boys ::shrug::… still think a hook woulda been better even with the shoutouts there. Killed that 2^nd and oh..that third.. let me quote you right quick…

That’s different! I like it. From listenin’ to just this track I can definitely hear a Nas-type influence…I wouldn’t be surprised if Crooks knew all the words to Illmatic. I’m feelin’ it tho. It’s that raw hip-hop! Don’t hear it too much anymore. Dope track.

Darkside ft Xavier

Hmm beat is cool….hasnt really caught me but let’s see where it goes…Intro adlibs almost made me press next on this joint but I’m patient. Oh okay! There we go…. Vocals came on and the piano did some beautiful shxt. Smooth. Delivery is killin’! Not sure if this is Crooks or Xavier tho. That can’t be good! I almost wanna go back to track 1 just to make sure it’s still Crooks. Blame my horrible memory I guess. ::shrug:: 2^nd verse delivery fell off a little bit tho. I found myself losing focus and interest quickly. Don’t know how I feel bout the little boy talkin’ bout the darkside either but that was kinda cool lol.. What’s next?

Just heard Crooks say “Shaolin”…I’m 100% sure that Wu-Tang is another influence for Stevie Crooks. That’s a good thing! Once again… this is some different shxt to hear in Cali. I’ve been hearing the same type of music for months now from our state’s artist. This got me feelin’ like I’m in Brooklyn or something. Enjoyin’ where it’s taking my imagination.

I know Crooks is saying some deep ass shxt but I’m kinda disappointed that I can’t go on google and look up his lyrics. I guess. I think I woulda enjoyed the track a little more. I enjoyed this experience. I feel like I just got back from a trip to New York. Lol. Dare I say this shxt is classic?! Maan.. might as well… this is some of the best shxt I’ve heard in the Inland Empire thus far!.... What I really love about VLNSNVRDIE is that it gives me the idea that the “Good Guy” IS the Villian! & it’s got me thinkin’ how accurate that is nowadays… When you do right and use your brain the world wants to hate you.. Oh wow. I’m lovin’ it already! Love the handclaps with that kick drum… great start….Lovin’ the vocals too…Like scream but not all the way…Raw tho! I’m really glad I like this genre of music….& I’m glad that I get a chance to check out something other than Hip-hop….Good track

Okay check this..I got into rock mainly because I used to buy Tony Hawk’s skateboard games everytime they released one and I always looked forward to see what band they’d have on there for me to listen to while I do kickflips over giant burgers and shxt!.... Okay I do have a critique. I didn’t even know this track had started. I thought .22 was still playing. I’m not sure if that was the sound you guys were going for or not. If so, you pulled it off effortlessly but if not…wish something a little differently sounding would have came up next. Either way it works tho. Alright let me stop typing for a minute and enjoy the song. The band is phenomenal!

Once again sounds like the last one but I’m guessin’ this is your sound. I need that diversity tho. Slow it down and then speed it back up. Love the timing switch up. GENIUS!.... Wish the vocals on here were a little louder. I hear the rawness in your voice but I want to hear it in your lyrics too!

Always/Never
 Nice to hear it finally slow down. Wish it would have happened a lot earlier. Love the melody of the vocals…delivery was a little too soft at times but then it worked.. especially since he “scream” effect came in right before the beautiful guitar based bridge.. I feel that!

Review of Theory Ole’s "Glass Ceiling" mixtape

I know yall been waiting for my opinion on Theory Ole’s Glass Ceiling album for a minute so I got yall but first imma let yall know a little bout the background story of me and Theory Ole. So I went to highschool with this lightskin nigga….He was on the boy’s basketball team and I was on the girl’s ….We also had Spanish class together…When we weren’t saying alphabets in espanol me and Josh , what I knew him as back then, used to spit punchlines back and forth at each other for the entertainment of our classmates. I realized his talent immediately. Fast forward a couples years since high school, and he has transformed himself into Theory Ole, one of the top up and coming rappers in not just Moreno Valley,CA but the Inland Empire as a whole. Couple years back he released “One Way Trip”….but now he is back with a new found following on twitter and his sophomore effort “The Glass Ceiling” ….. I have nothing but respect for Ole but it’s time to press play & see exactly what he has to say … Let’s get it!

Shxt! How’s that for an intro? Theory Ole has a chill ass flow. I mean…he sounds calm as hell but his lyrics give off a feeling of confidence that is hard to ignore. Everything that he says is basically a message to other rappers letting them know that he’s the best and feels sorry for the rest. That sentence sounds a little corny but that’s what I got from it. So I get it…. His Mission Statement is that he is unfuckwitable. Nice first track…kinda boring….let’s see if the rest of the songs live up to his cockyness.

& the assurance doesn’t stop with this joint…. Backed by a creative ass beat Theory Ole continues to go in on “the competition” or the lack there of in his opinion. Lyrically, Ole is smooth as hell.

The hook is cool. I’m kinda off the whole Toilet-I’m The Shxt reference though. Wish the hook coulda been more creative…it’s kinda catchy tho. You know what..i mean it is kinda creative… Like excuse me while I go take a shit.. haha.. it’s funny. Anyway! Second verse…His flow changed up slightly but he still sounds like he thinks he’s “the shxt”. I’d definitely like to see a video for this joint.

Believer ft Chris James (prod by Theory Ole)
Shoutout to the singer on the hook Chris James, who is another close friend of mine. Keep an eye out for his project, which will hopefully be out soon. The hook is cool. Straight to the point. Something for the ladies. Theory gets production credits for this joint ….Cool shxt. Nothing too breathe-taking but enough for me to enjoy. I will say that I love the lyrics on this joint though. He tones down the cockyness and spits some real shxt to the ladies. A lot different then the other tracks guys dedicate to chicks, or should I say bxtches. It’s different & I like that. Hmmm nice follow-up to Believer. Good thinking on having this track up next…especially with Theory Ole still being the producer behind the sound. It keeps the concept going. I applaud that.

I’m feelin’ the concept for this joint. A couple who had an argument and Theory “Too Prideful” to apologize or be the first to hit the other up and be the bigger person. Good shxt! I can relate….The hook is simple too but that “my pride wont” part is catchy as hell..real creative. The production gets a little repetitive…Wish it woulda had a little switchup or something to keep my attention.. Also in the delivery of the last verse…The delivery had me zoned out for a minute…Like it was somewhat repetitive as well…Had me in a trance… I was hopin it would switch it up to keep me …with a pulse?...Whatever..Nice track…just lost me at the end.

I love your tag.. dope shxt…Hmmm Intro is a bit empty…. I was waiting for something to happen…Alright.. verse starts…. I like the fact that Theory sounds more humble on this track…still confident but still taking a second to realize that he gotta work to reach success!.. I fux with that… & then to top it off he has Dre Biggity featuring on this joint?! Dre B is a rapper from the same city, Moreno Valley who found fame with his clothing company UTB Clothing (shoutout to Heffner), which was endorsed by rapper Wiz Khalifa. I think I mentioned in an old review that I got ahold of a H-World mixtape in highschool which featured Dre B, Pheo, Young B & 2Cik (now CikMoney from Black Card Boyz) and I’ve been an undercover fan since so when I saw that Dre had spit something to my beat…You could only imagine my appreciation..

To me… It’s like an ode to the dreams of all the local rappers and producers in Moreno Valley. Who have been wanting “it”.. and are out there making moves towards “it” but havent got “it” yet. Maybe I’m lookin’ too far into it all but I like it.. Whatever! Great concept! I think you deserve the buzz you been getting’ Theory… Too early to celebrate..I feel that… but shxt stay humble and you gon be poppin’ champagne bottles one day celebratin’ something big! I know Cheez making moves himself so… That really is some inspirational shxt. That’s what I love about where I live…There’s a lot of lazy niggas…but there also a lot with drive. I could start the list of people making names for themselves but no need. Their talents will speak for themselves soon enough if not already.

In A Nutshell:
If you couldn’t tell I really enjoyed this album. I was impressed by it. I haven’t had the chance to see Theory Ole perform but I hope I get to a show soon. I’d like to see how the stage show to this material would look. The sound for the album was really original, which I love. That’s really important when on the road to becoming a great artist. Some people have a gimmick. Others have original music. I respect the originals more. Lyric wise, Theory Ole is a breathe of fresh air in a world full of drug dealin’ gangsta trap rappers... Not sayin’ I don’t like that hood shxt but it’s nice to hear something different. Anyway…. Work on your bridges… That’ll keep your listeners entertained throughout the whole track… You can download the project HERE!
